In 1901 the U.S. Lifesaving Service built the Lifesaving Station at Arena Cove. It was from here that resident surfmen launched their lifeboats during many daring sea rescues. This turn-of-the-century, oceanside residence is now a romantic bed and breakfast. The furnishings for the inn reflect the classic lines and directness of purpose which characterized the American Arts and Crafts period. We have decorated the Coast Guard House with comfortable collector-quality mission furnishings, quality linens, the work of local artists and craftspeople, as well as momentos of the inn's maritime history.

Designed by renowned architect Louis Christian Mullgardt in the same vernacular as his famous Home of Redwood built for the 1915 Pan-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, the home is a Craftsman style treasure. Built in 1916 by the Goodyear Lumber Company, the majesty of the Arts & Crafts era lives on with high ceilings, original light fixtures, and large windows facing the gardens and sea.
